Iowa's New Permit to Carry Law
During the 2010 legislative session, Iowa passed a new Permit to Carry Law that allows Iowa citizens the right to carry a firearm as long as they go though approved training. Since the passing of the law, the Iowa Department of Public Safety has issued a
FAQ dealing with Iowa's new law. Here is a list of information about Iowa's new carry law that is important to know.
- Iowa's new permit will be a "shall issue" permit, January 1, 2011
- Iowa's new permit is good for 5 years and will cost $50
- There is no shooting requirement to initially obtain an Iowa carry permit
- Documentation of training needs to be completed within the previous 12 months prior to obtaining a renewal permit

This ONLINE course is a designed to meet the legal requirements for Iowa's new permit to carry "shall issue" law that will be in effect January 1, 2011. Topics include basic safe gun handling, pistol safety, information about pistol calibers as well as how to choose a
pistol for CCW.
THIS IS NOT A SHOOTING CLASS! This course is not intended to teach defensive shooting tactics. However, this course WILL allow you to obtain an Iowa permit to carry starting January 1, 2011.
This class meets the requirements of SF2379, Iowa's new permit to carry law.
Once you gain access to the course you will have 1 week to complete it. The average user should be able to finish the course in 3-4 hours. DO NOT sign up for the course before you are sure you have enough time to complete it! Students have full access to the instructor to interact with him and ask questions about the materails in the course.
Cost: $50 per person
Requirements: must be able to legally obtain a CCW in the state of Iowa.
